Chrisette Michele Wears “Alice + Olivia x Basquiat” Skirt to Inauguration in Protest and Donates Proceeds to Arts Programs

There was a lot of controversy surrounding Michele’s performance at Donald J. Trump’s inauguration, but she clarified quite a bit on her Breakfast Club interview (below). For one, the skirt she wore had images on it that expressed Basquiat’s resistance to such social problems as lynchings and violence against blacks. She wore it in protest.

We don’t all do “liberation” the same way, but if  you think you’re doing what you need to advance the cause of social justice, who am I to judge? Although I may be critical, you may be effective in your own way. At least she went out and stood for something.
